Bi-Geekly Update – Episode 8 Edition

Welcome in Geekaholics!

Not too much to go over from this episode….or is there?

Let’s get right to it, Peter received another Error Beer, Andy was right the NES Switch controller was per account not per household.

Error Beer Recap:
Andy: 3
Peter: 4

You may have noticed that the last few weeks we’ve been a bit off schedule. Andyhara was lucky enough to get tickets to a Mighty Mighty Bosstones concert and got himself a signed Dicky shirt!

Look how close he was!imagejpeg_0

Also you may have noticed Andy’s new shirt from Episode 8!

Bi-Geekly Update – Episode 7 Edition

Merry Christmas Geektoids!

We hope you all have a happy and safe holiday season.

If you haven’t already, check out our YouTube channel for our latest episodes.
We decided to split our episodes in order to be a bit more present and we believe it makes the content more appealing in quick takes, rather than carrying on for 30-40 minutes.

Now lets confirm or cleanup a few topics we discussed.

  1. The preppers Peter was trying to remember was “Doomsday Preppers.”
  2. Elf was released in 2003 – Andy was correct!
  3. Christmas Story airs 24/7 on TBS
  4. Diehard was released in July

That’s it for this week Geektoids, stay tuned for more!

Let’s correct some mistakes!

Correction Zone:

AndyHara was correct the PS2 is the best selling console. The amount of consoles sold and how long the PS2 was in production is unreal, check out the graph below…

image004

To put the above graph into perspective Playstation 4 was released in 2014 and has sold around $89 million units. Microsoft has not released any unit sold measurements regarding the Xbox One since November of 2014, at that time it was reported as $10 million units sold. Finally the Nintendo Switch is around $22 million units sold and released in 2017.

It almost seems certain that Playstatin 4 would take over the top console sold if it were to continue production. However, it appears that news about the Playstation 5 keeps surfacing and might lead to a big announcement next year, possibly during the next PSX (Playstation Experience Event).

Bugs in Christmas Trees…

Yea it’s definitely a thing, Today.com article regarding this very issue states,

“According to Doug Hundley, a retired pest management professional who now serves as the seasonal spokesperson for the National Christmas Tree Association, Christmas trees have always had bugs. You just haven’t noticed them.”

There you have it folks, brain eating bugs all up in your Christmas Tree. I should also include the remainder of the quote….

“Christmas tree insects are so small you’ll never know they are there and they have always been on real Christmas trees,” Hundley told TODAY Home. “On a rare occasion a particular insect like a common aphid may crawl off a tree and be noticed by the family, but these are harmless hitchhikers.”

While that might not sound so bad, take a look at some aphids, spiders, mites, etc…, that might be “hitchhiking” straight into your dome piece!

Stay safe America!

As mentioned toward the end of the show, here’s a great article on the Nintendo Lawsuit against LoveROMS and LoveRETRO by Polygon.

Check it out here, it’s a good read.

That’s it for this week Geeklings! We hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Bi-Geekly Update Ep. 4 – Excelsior!

Stan+Lee+Stan+Lee+Portrait+Session+Book+Signing+-mNn8npL4D-l

Some people will say, “Why read a comic book? It stifles the imagination. If you read a novel you imagine what people are like. If you read a comic, it’s showing you.” The only answer I can give is, “You can read a Shakespeare play, but does that mean you wouldn’t want to see it on the stage? – Stan Lee

The pure joy and happiness one man brought to millions of people with the short amount of time he had on this planet is awe-inspiring.

To think if the world never had Stan Lee, we would be without some of the greatest stories ever told. While yes some of them may have been cliche or even campy, they had a purpose. They made sense out of everyday issues and worldwide crises. They made the small guy the hero. They provided hope in times of darkness. Torment, torture, despair, and doom, all of which were faced and conquered through the imagination of a great story teller.

My first ever experience with a Marvel comic was a beat up copy of Captain America, I couldn’t tell you the issue or even what the story was. However the imagery will forever stay with me. Captain America was facing off with the Red Skull in what appeared to be an epic battle of sorts. Page by page Cap went up against the odds and finally confronted Red Skull, to only be disappointed by his escape. This was a common theme throughout any comic book, but to a 10 or something year old, it was magnificent.

For this Stan Lee, I am forever grateful for your contributions to this world.

For so it has ever been in the universe. Every ending brings forth a new beginning — Each beginning must have its end –” Uatu (Earth-616)

With that said, let’s get back to the corrections section!
*************************************************************************************

Welcome in Geekaholics!

Not too much to discuss this week folks, only a few things to touch on. Also please see our Amazon Associate links below :).

First was the Nintendo 64 Expansion port, our friend Mike from WPCSmash (iTunes Podcast linked) was nice enough to point out that I was right and Andy was wrong :). The only American expansion port is on the top front of the console. As seen below…

Memoryexpansionpak_box.jpg

However it appears there was an expansion port on the bottom of the N64 console in Japan, but it was cancelled and never made it to the worldwide market. Pictured below…

That’s it for the correction section. Stay tuned for more news and episodes!

*************************************************************************************

We wanted to try something new in the newsletter. Below you’ll find some items that we think are pretty interesting or cool. Some might even make some great gift ideas 😉 We’ll put out a full holiday post in the next week or so.

This is a great deal, especially if you were looking to get into Smart Home merchandise. I listen to all of my podcasts on the echo dot, especially Critical Role, where all you have to say is “Alexa, How do you want to do this?” and the last episode shows up!

Untitled picture

Laugh if you want to about the next item, but I absolutely recommend the Instant Pot. I can make a lot of great meals in the matter of minutes. Last night I made Salsa Chicken tacos in about 13 minutes. The chicken breast alone would have taken 30+ minutes

Untitled picture1

That’s all the items for this week folks! If you’d like to help out the little podcast that could, please check out out Amazon Associate link, here, and make your normal purchases. There’s no extra cost to you and we may receive a small commission that we can put towards the show.

Thanks again and we’ll see you soon!

Bi-Geekly Update Ep. 3 Edition

Good Morning Geekies,

We’re back at it again!

Corrections:

Scalebound was announced during Microsoft’s announcement of Xbox One, not Xbox One X announcement. The announcement that Scalebound was cancelled came out around the time of Xbox One X’s release…Sorry for the confusion.

As discussed on the podcast Arcade1Up is releasing additional iterations of the cabinets.

Here’s a look at the 12-in-1 Atari cabinet we discussed. Appears this cabinet will be available at Home Depot and Frys.com, not solely at Best Buy.

arcade cabs

It was mentioned that 1944 was coming out with a “brawler” game…That game is “Final Fight.” “Ghost N’Goblins” and “Strider” will also be available on this cabinet.

img_1281

While our conversation was regarding the hiccups with supply/demand, not the experience itself, we scoured the internet and found overall the enjoyment level was positive!

We even noticed that Arcade1Up, on their official twitter page, released a statement prior to the official release regarding some software issues that were known, specifically level 31 in Gauntlet, as well as some faulty paint on the control board.

From their post it appears they have dealt with both, even offering FREE plexiglass covers if you reach out to them directly and request. (Contact Info Below)

customerservice@arcade1up.com
Toll Free Service Phone: 1-800-764-2760
Hours: 7:00AM to 7:00PM CST – Monday-Friday

Only time will tell if the cabinets were a major success or a passing fad, caught up in the whirlwind that is nostalgia.

That’s it for this week Geekies!

Bi-Geekly Update Ep. 2 Edition

Good Morning Geektoids!

We made some mistakes…
BobRoss

Thanks Bob Ross…

Correction Zone:

Peter – Couldn’t remember the actor who played Professor X in Days of Future Past…Yep, brain fart – James McAvoy, in case you were wondering…

Andy – Referenced Days of Future Past with a specific cameo from Hugh Jackman. Turns out what he meant was X-Men Apocalypse.

While we’re on the topic of Hugh Jackman, might as well confirm that he did indeed produce X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Here we have the promised photo of Deadpool reprising the role Peter Falk(Columbo) played in “The Princess Bride.”

Finally we can confirm that Daredevil started the Marvel shows on Netflix, followed by Jessica Jones, Daredevil 2, then Luke Cage.

That’s it for this edition. Stay tuned for more episodes and updates.

Bi-Geekly Update Ep.1 Edition

Good Morning Geeklings!

Just a few updates since the last show.

Nintendo Switch Online

Appears pre-orders for the NES Classic Controllers are open, and shipments will begin mid-December 2018.

Cross-Platform Gaming

We did it America!!!!

Untitled picture

BREAKING NEWS, well ok breaking about 4 days ago. Reports came out a day after our podcast was published, stating that Sony is going to start playing “Nice” with other platforms.

As of right now Sony has only committed to allowing cross-platform gaming on Fortnite, but did state that they will be monitoring the situation and will consider using Fortnite as a “Beta” to test cross-platform viability.

This is a great step in the right direction and is also encouraging to see a large company listening to their consumers.

However only time will tell if Sony actually has any intention to expand the cross-platform capability or if this was a temporary band-aid to what started as a social black eye.

Bi-Geekly News

Good Morning Geekaholics,

We are overjoyed from all of the positive comments and feedback we received on our first episode.

We discussed and came to the conclusion that a Bi-Weekly show would work best for us and our families at this time.

However! We do want to make sure we stay in touch on the “off weeks,” so we decided to attempt to write a Bi-Geekly update. This will be a space for us to share additional thoughts on topics we discussed in prior episodes, updates to any topics we previously discussed and what to expect going forward.

Any questions or comments we receive on a prior episode will be responded to on the next episode, unless a lengthy reply is necessary, then maybe we’ll do it on the blog.

Stay tuned for the official release of the Bi-Geekly News.

Again we wanted to THANK ALL of our listeners for their feedback!!!
